Trapped in the midst of winter, broodmare owners minds turn to mulling over who to send their mare(s) to for the upcoming season.
Ultimately, performance on the track is a key measure of success, and going by his progeny's performance over the month of June, Highview Stud's Bullbars has put his hand up in impressive fashion.
Bullbars currently has two small crops of racing age, and on the whole, they are showing themselves to be competitive over a range of distances and track conditions. His performers aren't slanted to either sex.
And so to his performance over the past month. Since June 4, in Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong, Bullbars has had 16 runners, 11 of which have finished in the first three (69%) with only one has finishing further back than fifth in a race. His record reads:

The highlights include:
* Contessa Vanessa winning two Pearl Series races in a row for Graeme Rogerson and Chris Johnson, her second victory a very comfortable 2.5 length effort at Pukekohe;
* Jolly Bountiful becoming Bullbars first Hong Kong winner over 1,200m at Sha Tin;
* Comin'through (racing as Here He Comes) finished fifth in the Group 1 Queensland Derby over the shortened distance of 2,200m;
If the form continues into July, here are a handful of horses to follow:
* Brookbars runs over 2,000m on Wednesday at Matamata, and should go very close to clearing maidens
* Pearlessence, trained by the Baker/Forsman team won nicely at Rotorua last week. Andrew Forsman said after the race that she is a filly they have a bit of time for.
* Redcayenne, trained by Tony Pike, wound up late over 1,600m at Te Rapa last Saturday. A win doesn't look far away.
